You really can’t go wrong with the classic combination of cinnamon and raisins. In this recipe, the spicy-sweet duo is folded into a simple coconut flour batter to make hearty, flavorful muffins. Not only do these muffins taste delicious, they are also satisfyingly high in healthy fats, fiber, minerals, and protein. Topped with a dab of nut butter or drizzled with coconut spread, they are one of our absolute favorite recipes to use as a nutrient-dense breakfast or snack on-the-go.
Sardines. What can you do with this shimmery, nutrient-packed seafood? While undeniably rich in protein, omega-3s, and minerals, the strong tasting little fish can be very challenging to incorporate into the diet. Some brave people enjoy them straight out of the can or spread neatly over crackers, but I’ve never quite managed to get them down in that way. That’s why I’m always looking for creative, simple strategies to include them in meals. One of my favorite ways to eat sardines is in this traditional Fisherman’s Eggs dish with lots of garlic, shallots and parsley. It provides just the right balance of flavors and textures to make eating sardines delicious and easy.
Okay, it’s time to talk about strength and fitness. I don’t mean simply looking in the mirror and being impressed (or depressed) by the specimen staring back at you, but actually feeling great and performing at one’s peak.
Here’s what I have found after working out for the past fifty years. Yes, that’s 5-0! I actually began my journey when my Dad bought me a workout bench and a 110 lb weight set at Sears & Roebuck on my fourteenth birthday. I was preparing for the high school football season and wanted to excel. To this day, I am convinced weight training helped me become a better, stronger, more confident and more effective player and person than I would have been otherwise. I still have the original equipment in my basement. In fact, I just used it yesterday! It’s a bit worn and showing its age… some would say like its owner! Over the years, I have collected an assortment of other equipment. No matter what you have for equipment, here’s what I recommend to maintain (or to rediscover!) your youth at any age.
With its highly palatable taste and wide availability, nearly everyone has heard about olive oil’s heart helping, cholesterol lowering, blood sugar regulating properties. In this article I'll share some of the key features to look for when selecting an olive oil, review tips for using it wisely in the kitchen, and share one of my favorite salad and homemade dressing recipes.Read More
Recently, we wrote about how to improve the quality of sleep using natural remedies. With sleep disorders on the rise, we think it is important to consider the various factors that promote a good night's rest. One under-discussed facet of sleep hygiene is the importance of clean air in the bedroom. If you think about this further, ideally you are spending 8+ hours in that room and breathing that air. In the cooler months, we tend to close windows so the option to increase ventilation inside your home isn’t always practical. So how can you improve air quality in your room?Read More
Bedtime should be an event to look forward to after a long day. There can be something so comforting about going through a methodical nightly routine that ends with cozying in under the covers and flicking off the lights.
