How often do you wake up feeling frazzled, restless or disconnected? The shrill beep of the alarm clock cuts through the still morning all too soon and stumbling out of bed with pillow imprints mushed into your cheeks, you peer through drooping eyelids to search the cabinets for whatever munchies you can get your hands on for breakfast. Guzzle one, or two, or three large cups of a caffeinated beverage that leaves you buzzing and slightly nauseous...and you are off for the day! It is a scene that is all too familiar in today’s frenzied world, especially for the estimated 70 million problem sleepers in the United States. Oftentimes it feels that no matter how many sheep are counted, steaming cups of calming tea sipped, or room darkening shades piled onto the windows, a peaceful night's rest is completely out of reach. In our fast paced society, individuals are constantly scrambling to complete a medley of tasks before tucking into bed for the night, and sleep has somehow fallen to the bottom of our perceived hierarchy of needs. We are driven to stay up late staring deep into a glaring blue computer screen on a quest for the answers to our life questions, jolt awake to a vicious alarm for last minute food preparations or an ambitious trip to the gym, yet in turn find ourselves schlepping to work with large bags under our eyes sipping on a caffeinated beverage that we truly didn’t want to buy. We repeatedly manage to harshly disconnect ourselves from the beautifully intricate circadian mechanisms of nature, and then, when we try to return to a pattern of restorative sleep, we are simply unable to. What's worse, we go on adding a slew of addictive, toxic substances and convoluted rituals to help us get some sleep, and still we lie awake, panicked with self-negative thinking, "there must be something wrong with me!"

By now, it is likely that you have heard about the concept of “
earthing”, the practice of staying in contact with the earth’s energy that nature freely provides us. This earthing phenomenon is not a theoretical concept but rather based on scientific fact supported by substantial research, laboratory testing and basic physics.
Our mother earth emits a constant flow of direct current that it continually stores from the sun’s energy. This current flows in the form of electrons from the earth having natural anti-inflammatory effects and moving relatively fast throughout the body, which is a good conductor. We can all (along with our animal counterparts!) benefit from tapping into this energy force by simply connecting with the earth’s surface. A simple walk while barefoot in the grass, along the beach or while swimming in our oceans, lakes and rivers, is all it takes to absorb this energy.
